Exterior view of the city museum Erlangen.

The Municipal Museum´s collection documents the town´s history from prehistoric times to the medieval "Erlang" and through to the 20th century. The focus is on the baroque town of Erlangen with its Huguenot craftsman workshops and manufactures, the residence and the university. Other topics include the upheavals of the Industrial Age and the transformation of the town community since the time of the German Empire and within the context of German history. The tour ends with Erlangen´s development as a "Siemens town" following the end of the Second World War. One of the museum´s strengths lies in its ambitious special exhibitions.
